There’s nothing quite like the buzz of a traditional Christmas market. The twinkling lights, the scent of mulled wine, pine and cinnamon and the sound of festive cheer all create a special kind of magic. If you're looking for the perfect place to soak up that atmosphere, the Cork Christmas Market is a must-visit.
Cork's festive celebrations have seen a few changes over the years. Many will remember the long-running 'Glow' market, which was then replaced by the 'Solas' light show which while great in itself, didn’t quite provide that same unmatched Christmas market experience.
So last year, when we saw the return of a full market with 'Corkmas,' Corkonians and visitors alike were delighted as the city came alive again with festive stalls, food and fun.
This year, Corkmas is back, and it promises to be bigger and brighter than ever. To help you make the most of your visit, we've put together the ultimate guide to the Cork Christmas Market. From dates and attractions to the easiest way to get there with Aircoach, we’ve got all the details you need for a perfect festive day out.
What's On at the Cork Christmas Market?
This year’s celebration is spread across the city, Corkmas is the main event but there are plenty of other festive attractions for everyone to enjoy. Whether you're planning a family day out or a festive trip with friends, here’s what you can look forward to.
Main Market (Corkmas)
The heart of the celebration is the Corkmas Christmas Market at Emmet Place. Here you’ll find charming wooden chalets filled with unique crafts, handmade gifts and delicious festive food and drink (mulled wine or Bratwurst anyone?). It’s the perfect place to pick up some presents, grab a warm treat and soak up the merry atmosphere.
Where is the Cork Christmas Market?
The main market, Corkmas, is located at Emmet Place in the city centre.
When is the Cork Christmas Market?
The Cork Christmas Market runs from November 21st to December 22nd.
The market is open every Thursday to Sunday during that time, with an extra bonus day on Monday 22nd December. Opening hours are different depending on the day, so here’s a breakdown to help you plan:
- Thursday & Friday: 12PM - 8PM
- Saturday & Sunday: 10AM - 8PM
- Monday, December 22nd: Final day with full hours.
Ferris Wheel & Carousel
For unbeatable views of the city’s twinkling lights, head to the Grand Parade for a go on the iconic 32-metre Ferris wheel. There’s also a vintage carousel that’s perfect for the little ones (and the young at heart!). Both are running from November 28th to December 31st, between 12PM and 9PM daily.
Santa's Magical Market
It wouldn’t be Christmas without a visit to the man in red himself. A highlight for families, Santa's Magical Market is an enchanting experience at the Marina Market. From November 22nd to December 23rd, children can wander through winter wonderland before meeting Santa. It’s a truly magical day out that the whole family will remember.
ONICE at the Marina
If you’re looking for something a bit more active (maybe to tire out the wee ones out - cough cough!), grab your skates and head to ONICE - Cork’s indoor ice-skating rink at the Marina. It’s open from November 7th to January 4th (with a short break for Christmas), offering a fun and festive activity whatever the weather.
