15th Sep 2025

When it comes to a good night out, there's no place quite like Cork. The city is known for its vibrant culture and warm, welcoming atmosphere - and when the sun goes down, this reputation truly comes alive. Whether you're a student exploring the city, a local looking for some new spots to hit on your night out or a tourist searching for the best the city has to offer, Cork nightlife has something for everyone.

What makes a night out in Cork so special is its unique blend of old and new. You can find yourself listening to local trad musicians whilst sipping a pint in a centuries-old pub one minute, and dancing to a live DJ in a club the next. The city's compact size means everything is within easy reach, and a thriving student population keeps the energy high all year round.

For anyone travelling to Cork from Dublingetting to the heart of the action is simple and stress-free. Aircoach provides a comfortable and affordable connection, dropping you right into the city, ready to explore the best of Cork's nightlife.

Cork's Nightlife Districts

Most of Cork's nightlife can be found right in the city centre, with a whole range of venues scattered throughout. As they city is fairly small, this makes it easy to wander between venues and see where the night takes you!

That being said, there are two main areas that stand out as the primary hubs for an unforgettable nigh out. The best part? Both are within easy walking distance of the Aircoach stop at Lower Glanmire Road.

Oliver Plunkett Street and Surrounding Lanes

This area is the heart of traditional Cork. Lined with beloved local pubs and live music venues, Oliver Plunkett Street and its surrounding lanes attract a diverse crowd of all ages. It's the perfect spot for a few relaxed drinks with friends, a classic pub crawl or for visitors wanting to soak up authentic local culture.

Washington Street

If you're looking for bigger bars and a more energetic club scene, Washington Street is the place to be. Known for its lively atmosphere, especially on weekends, this area is a favourite among students and young people. Here, you'll find a younger crowd ready to dance the night away in some of the city's most popular late-night venues.

Pubs in Cork

Pubs are the backbone of Cork nightlife and a trip to the city wouldn't be complete without visiting a few of its iconic traditional pubs. From local favourites to tourist hot spots - you won't go short of options.

Hi-B Bar

A tiny, old-school pub with only one rule: no mobile phones. It's the perfect place for good conversation over a pint.

The Oval

Tucked away in the corner of South Main Street, this pub is a local favourite known for its original oval-shaped ceiling from the early 1900s and cosy atmosphere (think candlelit tables, vintage decor and an open fire in winter).

Mutton Lane Inn

One of Cork's oldest pubs, Mutton Lane offers a dark, candlelit interior that feels like stepping back in time. Located next to the English Market, it's a great spot if you're looking to tick off 2 of the city's landmarks.

Tom Barry's

Famous for its fantastic beer garden in the summer with its wood fired pizza oven, this is a great spot to enjoy a drink on a sunny evening. Or, in the colder months, warm up by its big iron fireplace indoors.

Bars and Cocktail Lounges

If your perfect night out leans more towards modern interior and a mandatory cocktail or two, Cork's bar scene has plenty to offer.

The Glasshouse

Located on the rooftop of the Montenotte hotel, enjoy a cocktail or drink of your choice whilst enjoying panoramic views of the city.

Arthur Mayne's Pharmacy

One of Cork's most unique bars, this 120 year old pharmacy has been lovingly preserved and now acts as a wine bar. A great place to visit after a day of exploring the city, with food available too.

The Voodoo Rooms

This venue combines an eclectic cocktail menu with live music and DJ nights featuring music from the 80's, 90's and noughties, making it a popular choice, especially for its student nights.

Clubs and Late-Night Venues

If you're looking for a big night out, Cork's nightclubs have you covered with plenty of options - including lots of student friendly nights.

The Pav

Originally a cinema from the 1920's, now one of Cork's most well known nightclubs and especially popular with students and younger professionals. The venue hosts everything from DJ sets to live bands.

Vibe

As the name suggests, this club offers a great night out. It's an LGBTQ+ friendly nightclub and a favourite among students. With both drag shows and club nights on offer, you're sure to love it.

Conway's Yard

A unique venue with both indoor and outdoor areas. Conway's Yard is known for its 'Instagramable' decor, DJ nights and live events. It's tucked away off the side of Oliver Plunkett Street so don't miss it!

Live Music Scene

Last but not least, Cork nightlife wouldn't be the same without its live music scene. Arguably what the city's nightlife is most known for, Cork's legendary live music scene caters to every taste, from traditional Irish folk to contemporary bands.

Sin É

Running live music sessions since 1880, Sin É is a must visit if you're looking to catch some traditional Irish music. Music starts every night at 6pm and earlier on Sundays.

Coughlan's

Standing in Douglas Street since the 1800's, Coughlan's is an institution of Cork. Now an award winning venue yet with the same cosy charm, the line up includes everything from trad and folk to indie, jazz and even comedy.

The Corner House

Another great pub offering trad sessions most nights, but especially Thursdays. The Corner House offers little thrills but you're guaranteed a good pint of stout or dram of whiskey with live Irish music.

The Oliver Plunkett

Blending history with music, this lively bar you'll see the walls adorned with old photos, poems and other memorabilia and live music features every night, covering everything from traditional Irish bands to modern cover acts.
